TSA Seen Merging TWIC With Background Checks

The former director of TSAs hazmat threat assessment program said TSA's decision to place the Hazmat Threat Assessment and Transportation Worker Identification Credential programs under the same director was a step toward combining them.

TSA spokeswoman Jennifer Marty-Peppin confirmed the programs had oeen placed under the direction of Stephen Sadler, senior manager of TSA's credentialing office, but said they would not be combined.

The change was made so that "lessons learned in hazmat [credentialing] areas like enrollment, vetting and adjudication" can be applied to TWIC, Marty-Peppin told TRANSPORT TOPICS.
