Shipping Line Makes First Call to Port of Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - A Taiwan-based shipping line lias started service to tlie Port of Portland, providing another boost to the port that struggled alter two of its three major container earners pulled out in 2004.

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. began its Portland service in mid-Junme, one month alter carrier ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. made its first call to the port.

The new service means lower transportation costs for regional businesses, which now can send their goods to Asia from Portland instead of first shipping them to other West Coast ports.
