DOJ Signs Off on ATA Plan For Model Broker Pact

The U.S. Department of Justice said a model contract for use by motor carriers and freight brokers written by American True-king Associations does not violate antitrust law. clearing the way for ATA to publish its proposal.

The decision is expected to spark fresh debate over the rules of engagement between truck operators and brokerage firmr, with ATA and the trade association representing brokers offering competing contracts.

Assistant Attorney General Thomas Barnett, in a business review letter issued Aug. 10, said ATA's model agreement was "not likely to reduce competition" because it does not specify rates and its use is left up to each company, acting independently.
