EPA Waiver on Fuel Economy Could Hit Trucks, Calif. Says

WASHINGTON - California officials said they would turn their attention eventually to fuel-economy standards for heavy-duty trucks as part of their effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, after they first focus on cutting carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles.

"We're focusing on light-duty vehicles now - moving into heavy-duty eventually," Robert Sawyer, chairman of the California Air Resources Board, told TRANSPORT TOPICS. "It's not something we'd address immediately, but the transportation sector is a big part of the greenhouse gas problem, and heavy-duty trucks are part of that."
