Sale of Allison to 'Open Doors' For Partnerships, Analysts Say

The General Motors Corp. sale of Allison Transmission to private equity firms can open new opportunities for expansion and partnerships for Allison as a stand-alone company, transport analysts said.
On June 28, GM said it would sell its Allison unit, a manufacturer of automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, to buyout firms Carlyle Group and Onex Corp. for $5.6 billion. Carlyle and Onex will split a $1.5 billion equity investment in Allison, Indianapolis, as part of the transaction, the two companies said.
