COLORADO: Chain Spaces
Transport Topics, July, 2007 by Anonymous
The Colorado Department of Transportation said it would expand the state's designated chain areas to help truckers comply with a new law requiring them to chain their tires in winter weather.
Under the new law, which took effect July 1, truckers could be fined up to $500 for "failure to chain up," said Colorado DOT spokesman Stacey Stegman.
The Colorado Transportation Commission will spend $2.56 million to improve chain-up sites and signs to reduce speed near the pull-offs, said Stegman.
Stegman said CDOT will add 137 additional chain-up spaces in both directions of Interstate 70, either by increasing existing areas or adding new spaces.
