WASHINGTON: Interstate 5

The Washington Department of Transportation said it has begun construction of a stretch of Interstate 5 through Seattle that could back up traffic in and out of the city for 30 miles.
Crews began working Aug. 10 in an area just south of downtown Seatde. Besides repaving 1.13 miles of northbound 1-5, diey will replace or repair deteriorating expansion joints that connect concrete freeway deck slabs.
More ramps were opened during the second stage of construction, Washington DOT said. During the remaining tiiree construction stages, as many as tiiree lanes will be closed, potentially narrowing it to just one northbound lane.
