House Passes Energy Bill Without CAFE Provision

The House of Representatives on Aug. 4 passed its version of energy legislation that provides incentives to build biomass factories and for research into cellulosae ethanol and biodiesel, but it does not include any fueleconomy provision for large trucks or passenger vehicles.
"This legislation takes our nation's energy policy in a new direction, reducing our reliance on foreign oil by investing in homegrown biofuels, providing incentives for plug-in hybrid vehicles, promoting mass transit, reducing carbon dioxide, and bolstering research on renewable energy and global warming," said House Majority Leader Steny Hover (D-Md.).
