DOT Transport Index Flat in August

Transport Topics, October, 2007 by Anonymous

The Department of Transportation s freight transportation services index for August was flat, compared with a year ago, DOT said Oct. 10.

Considering consecutive months, the same index rose by 0.4% in August from the July level after two consecutive monthly declines, DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said.

Through August, the freight TSI was up by less than 0.1%. It had dropped 0.3% through July, but the August uptick turned the index slightly positive year-to-date, DOT said.

TSI is a seasonally adjusted monthly index that measures the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industry, including the railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline and local transit sectors. - Transport Topics
