14 States Join Suit Against EPA For Greenhouse Gas Waiver

Agency Says California's Legal Action Unnecessary
California, with more than a dozen other states, filed a lawsuit in federal court, seeking to force the Environmental Protection Agency to rule on a request that would allow them to enact tougher standards on carbon emissions from passenger vehicles.
If California succeeds in getting the waiver from EPA, its rules could set the stage for further regulation of heavy truck engines, trucking representatives said. However, they added, the industry already was taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas output.
"California is ready to implement the nation's cleanest standards for vehicle emissions, but we cannot do that until the federal government grants a waiver allowing us to enforce those standards," Gov. Arnold...
