Texas Ponders Adding Existing Highways To 4,000-Mile Statewide Corridor Plan

The Texas Department of Transportation will consider incorporating existing highways into its proposed 4,000-mile Trans-Texas Corridor, TxDOT said in a recently released draft report.
The department first would examine using current portions of highway for the Interstate-69/TTC project, which includes tolling and truck-only lanes, the agency said in a Nov. 13 draft environmental impact statement, released before the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill that would prohibit tolls on existing roads built using federal funds, including interstate highways, in Texas.
The bill, which would provide $105.6 billion in 2008 spending for the Department of Transportation funding is expected to pass the Senate. President Bush has said he would veto it.
