MISSOURI: Interstate Shutdown
Transport Topics, December, 2007 by Anonymous
TOWN AND COUNTRY - On the day after New Year's Day, the Missouri Department of Transportation will close a five-mile portion of Interstate 64 for a year. In 2009, it will close another five miles.
It's not an earthquake or flood, but the agency is treating the shutdown of a section of St. Louis-area interstate just like a disaster. MoDOT is going into what it calls "major incident mode."
A glass-walled conference area at MoDOT's office in suburban St. Louis will be the command center. It overlooks a room of dispatchers and customer service agents monitoring intersections and congestion levels and dispatching Motorist Assist trucks. Twenty screens on the wall show real-time images of interstate traffic. - Associated Press
