ABF Addresses Labor Talks

ABF Freight System, the fifth-largest less-than-truckload carrier, welcomed the contract settlement between YRC Worldwide and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. However, A B F also took pains recently to emphasize the differences between it and YRC, the largest LTL.
ABF spokesman David Humphrey sent a letter to TRANSPORT TOPICS outlining some of the issues for the carrier as it enters the last stage of negotiations with the union for a new contract to replace the one that expires March 31.
Humphrey pointed out that YRC continues to deal with integrating the several companies it has acquired. Yellow and Roadway Corporations merged in 2003 and the combined company bought USF Corp. in 2005.
