Feb. 14--The departure of Carly Fiorina as chairman and chief executive of Hewlett-Packard has had various ripple effects.
In Silicon Valley, which continues to be perceived as the hot bed of innovation, questions are being asked: is lack of women directors a problem that needs to be taken seriously?
Valley-based blogs refer to a survey conducted by Chicago headhunting firm Spencer Stuart. The valley lags behind as compared to US Inc., as far as recruiting women on the board is concerned. Only 41 percent of companies in Silicon Valley had women on their boards.
This compares weakly with the country-wide statistics. Last year's results show that around 85 percent of companies in S&P's 500 had at least one woman board member. The reasons,...
