Delay hits REL's Haryana project as partner quits.

Mar. 15--NEW DELHI -- This could be a bad start to Reliance's dreams of emerging as a large player in the turnkey contract segment. Its competitors like Siemens, Alstom and BHEL have reasons to celebrate.

The company's much hyped plans of tying up with Chinese power company Dongfang Electricity for the Rs 2,200-crore turnkey contract for the Yumanagar power plant seems to have been given a quiet burial.

Instead, it's said to have found solace in the arms of another Chinese equipment supplier -- Shanghai Electric Power. The change in partners mid way could perhaps delay construction of the Yamunanagar plant being promoted by the Haryana Stete Electricity Board.

This was Reliance Energy's first big stride in the world of engineering procurement...
