REL plans foray into wind power, ties up with GE.

Jun. 23--NEW DELHI -- EVEN as the dust is settling on the family settlement saga, Anil Ambani has made his first big move in taking his business forward. Reliance Energy (REL) has tied up with General Electric of the US to develop wind power projects in the country. This also marks REL's debut in the non-conventional energy sector.

And since a big size and scale are always considered given for a new project from the Reliance group, this one also promises to be big. It plans to develop a 500 mw wind power project, which, apart from being the largest such project in the region, will also account for 15 percent of the total installed wind power capacity in India.
