Fuel hardy: Now you can fill it, shut it & pay on credit.

Jun. 30--Purchasing fuel on credit cards was not an attractive proposition for consumers, thanks to the surcharge levied on card purchases of fuel. Banks, having understood this, have developed innovative new schemes to let consumers avail of the convenience of purchasing fuel on cards.

HSBC, ABN Amro and a host of other banks have announced the waiver of the surcharge though the details of the scheme vary from bank to bank. ET decided to take a look at the vagaries involved with each scheme to help consumers choose the best.

HSBC and ABN Amro are the only two banks for which information was available that extended the offer to all their cardholders at all petrol pumps. Others like ICICI, Citibank and SBI restrict the benefit to holders of oil company...
