TCS acquires Australian core banking solutions co.

Oct. 21--MUMBAI, India -- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday announced that it had acquired Australian Financial Network Services (FNS), a core banking solutions vendor, for approximately $26m. TCS has bought the stakes owned by Macquarie Bank and other promoters in an all-cash deal.

FNS has more than 100 banks as its customers and is seen as a major provider of core banking solutions for large banks. While the banking solution has been very successful, FNS has not been making profits due to the large investment in marketing required for banking software companies.

The scaleability of FNS' solutions can be determined from the fact that the largest bank in India -- State Bank of India -- chose it for its 10,000 branches. FNS had won the SBI...
