Feb. 1--BUNKING HISTORY: Ford Motor Company, in a new television commercial which was timed for broadcast just two days after it said it would close as many as 14 factories and cut up to 30,000 jobs over the next six years, has William Clay Ford Jr, chief executive of Ford Motor, telling viewers that his company is "determined to retake the American roadway".

The ad, titled 'Rebirth', while acknowledging the company's recent setbacks, attempts to encapsulate the restructuring plan -- which, at the back-end include massive shake ups in the top management, such as the departures of the chief marketing and sales executive and the head of investor relations, and the elimination of four corporate officer positions -- that the CEO has drawn up.
