World Bank comes to Mumbai's rescue.

Feb. 1--MUMBAI, India -- The World Bank (WB), for the first time in nearly 12 years, has shown interest in Mumbai's development, following the state government's promise to adopt a time-bound action plan for the city.
The state government has agreed to set up a 'Metropolitan Planning Committee' as a co-ordinating agency to carry out the development plan.
The bank's willingness to help the state government improve the city has been expressed in a communiqu to chief secretary R Premkumar. The letter follows the visit of the World Bank Technical Assistance Mission to Mumbai last November.
The team, during its two-week stay here, had undertaken an independent assessment of the ground realities.
