Car sales sluggish in Jan, but 2-wheelers stay on track.

Feb. 2--NEW DELHI -- Passenger car sales are not that robust as they approach the fag end of the current fiscal. Market leader Maruti managed single digit growth at 7per cent and stood at 48,526 units in January '06 as against 45,300 units for the same month last year.

Fellow Japanese car maker Honda Siel recorded a growth of over 20per cent as it sold 4,570 units in the month of January '06 as compared to 3,779 units for the corresponding month last year.

Top of the heap this month was Ford thanks to its high Fiesta sales. The American car maker saw good growth after a dry patch clocking a 124per cent clip in January at 5,173 units as compared to 2,307 units for the same month last year.
