Poultry industry limps back as flu fear fades.

Mar. 9--PUNE, India -- The domestic poultry industry, slowly limping back to normalcy, has been losing Rs 384 crore a day since February 17, the day the outbreak of avian flu was declared in Navapur, in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district.
"The daily direct loss for the poultry industry since February 17 has been Rs 174 crore while the indirect loss is Rs 210 crore a day, amounting to over Rs 5,700 crore till last Saturday.
Over 1.1m people could lose their livelihood and small farmers will go bankrupt since cost of production, at any time, is around Rs 30 while at the height of the panic they got around Rs 2-3," OP Singh, CEO, Venkateshwara group, said.
