Darjeeling tea body to set up centre for excellence.

May 20--KOLKATA, India -- Darjeeling Tea Association (DTA), the apex body of Darjeeling tea producers, has firmed up plans to set up a Centre for Excellence (CoE) for overall development of the 150-year-old Darjeeling tea industry. The centre will plan, manage and respond to tea industry needs and also outsource research activities.
The DTA has sought central assistance to set up the CoE, which will come up in the GI (geographical indication) area of Darjeeling. The CoE will work as a nodal institution of the tea industry to address all agri-export zone matters. The West Bengal government, recently declared Darjeeling as an agri-export zone.
