Oilseeds acreage declines 8%.

Nov. 27--NEW DELHI -- The shift in the sowing area of mustard to wheat and chana (gram) has led to a 8 percent decline in the oilseeds acreage to 74.79 lakh hectares in the on-going rabi season till November 23.

The oilseeds acreage in the corresponding period last year was 81.61 lakh hectares, says official updates. Currently, mustard acreage during the current rabi season has dropped by 7 percent at 57.73 lakh hectares, owing to less coverage of crop in major mustard-producing states like MP, Rajasthan, UP and Haryana.

However, there is good news for groundnut oil processors as the acreage went up by 23 percent. The sowing area under groundnut jumped to 2.16 lakh hectares till November 23, from 1.76 lakh hectares.
