Tirupur exports cross Rs 11,000 crore in FY07.

Apr. 28--COIMBATORE: Readymade garment and knitwear exports from Tirupur have crossed Rs 11,000 crore during 2006-07, according to the Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA).
"Earlier, TEA set a target of Rs 10,000 crore export to be achieved by 2007 ( calendar year). But, it has crossed Rs 11,000 crore in 2006-07, A Sakthivel, president, TEA, told ET.
Encouraged by the performance, the exporters now expect a 20 -- 25 percent growth during this fiscal.
On exploring new markets, Mr Sakthivel said that Russia and Japan seem to be promising and the exporters are looking forward to tap it. A 11- member delegation led by union textiles minister, Mr Shankersinh Vaghela recently visited these countries.
