US seeks details of Hutch-NGO spat.

May 28--NEW DELHI -- The United States Department of Justice has asked Telecom Watchdog, the non-governmental organisation (NGO), which had challenged Vodafone's acquisition of Hutchison Essar Limited (HEL), details of the case. This comes even as the Delhi High Court this week will hear the revival petition by the same NGO, which had challenged the foreign investment promotion board's (FIPB) decision to clear the deal.
In a communication dated May 21, Kathleen M Hamann of the Anti-corruption and Good Governance Team, Department of Justice, has asked the NGO to furnish details, if any of irregularities or violations in the deal. While the reasons for the US Department of Justice's interests are not known, both Vodafone and Hutchison are listed in the US....
