Rice exporters feel the heat despite partial withdrawal of ban.

Oct. 30--The government's partial withdrawal of the rice exports ban is unlikely to bring any relief to ships waiting at various ports. Clearance has been given last week to export superior quality rice priced over $425 per tonne by the cabinet, while all other low-cost varieties will continue to be under ban.
Rice exporters have demanded the vessels waiting at ports should be allowed to be loaded without any restriction. Over a dozen bulk carriers were stranded at Kakinada Port, which accounts for a majority of India's rice exports, awaiting customs clearance for 2-3 weeks.
According to leading grain exporters, the rice varieties grown in south India fetch up to $300 per tonne in the export market, and that the partial withdrawal of ban is unlikely...
