Extraordinary General Meeting 
 
Cable and Wireless plc (the "Company") announces that it is today posting a 
circular to its shareholders (the "Circular") comprising: - 
 
  * an explanatory statement in respect of the Company's intention to terminate 
    its registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") and 
    its SEC reporting and other applicable obligations; and 
 
  * notice of an Extraordinary General Meeting ("EGM") to amend its Articles of 
    Association to enable such termination. 
 
The Company will only be able to file for de-registration from the SEC once the 
number of US Shareholders, whether holding directly or through nominees, falls
