Coca-Cola Co and Pepsi-Cola Co both introduced clear cola products in 1992. The outcome of the soft drink companies' attempt to market clear soft drinks could set a precedent for other new product introductions in 1993. Pepsi hopes to win 2% of the soft drink market with its Crystal Pepsi. Pepsi says clear cola is a unique category and not in competition with new age beverages. Coca-Cola's Tab Clear uses NutraSweet and has no calories.

New product introductions are commonplace for beverage companies fighting to grab sales in an increasingly fragmented consumer market.

But this year, the soft drink industry giants have kicked off the mother of all new product introductions with the rollouts of Crystal Pepsi and Tab Clear
