The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has set international standards of quality for operations. They are not required by law, but many European companies expect companies with which they do business to be ISO 9000 certified. There are five sets of procedural quality standards: ISO 9000 through ISO 9004, including informational guidelines, basic standards, handling of problems, testing, inspection and the designing of a quality control system. Adoption of ISO standards by beverage packaging suppliers is discussed.
