Ace-K gets FDA nod The U.S. carbonated diet soft drink category received a substantial boost when the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of acesulfame potassium calorie-free sweetener in liquid beverages June 30. Hoechst subsidiary Nutrinova will market the sweetener under the Sunett brand name.

On the heels of the Nutrinova announcement, PepsiCola said it will launch Pepsi One, the first ready-to-drink diet beverage containing the sweetener. Pepsi One diet cola is made with a blend of acesulfame potassium and aspartame.
