AmBev.(Brazilian beverage maker's lawsuit against Coca-Cola regarding merger actions)(Brief Article)

Beverage Industry, March, 2000

AmBev, the worlds fifth-largest beverage company, faced off with the Coca-Cola Co. in a Rio de Janeiro courtroom, accusing the soft drink maker of unfair business practices. AmBev claims that when it evolved from a merger of Brazil's two largest beverage companies last year, CocaCola allegedly sought to influence the Brazilian public against the merger.

Allegedly, Coca-Cola also influenced competitor Companhia Cervejaria Kaiser brewery to voice concerns as well. Coca-Cola owns a minority stake of Kaiser, which said it plans to counter AmBev's complaint with further legal action.
