Chicago-based Sara Lee Corp. announced plans to buy Polish coffee company Prima S.A., furthering the company's growth in Central Europe. Prima is a unit of Drie Mollen Holding B.V., a private label and foodservice coffee maker that reported $45 million in sales for 2000. The leading brand, Prima Niebieska, helps give Prima an 18 percent share of the Polish coffee market.

In other Sara Lee news, reports indicate that Sara Lee Coffee & Tea Co., Bensenville, Ill., is expanding the company's Suffolk, Va., plant with the addition of a $93 million concentrated liquid coffee production line. Plans call for an additional 152,000 square feet and new processing and packaging equipment to produce frozen liquid concentrate coffee.
