Cabinet prospects for Gore.

Gore's prospects for Cabinet appointees are a mix of old and new, well-known names from the past and fresh faces you probably haven't seen.

At State: UN Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, an ambitious insider with experience in Europe, Asia. And ex-Sen. George Mitchell, D-Maine. He managed Irish peace talks...a smart, patient and low-key negotiator.

Defense: Former Sen. Sam Nunn, D-Ga., knows Pentagon inside out. Also Army Sec. Louis Caldera...Hispanic, West Pointer, Harvard diploma.

Treasury: Current Sec. Lawrence Summers, a close Gore adviser, would likely stay put. Has a long public career in int'l finance policy.

Energy: Bill Richardson would stay on if he's not the VP choice.
