PROJECT OVERVIEW
Malaysia currently has an installed energy generating capacity of 8,990 Mw. However, domestic demand is expected to surge up to 21,000 Mw by the year 2010. As a result, the local state-owned TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD (TNB) established a new subsidiary known as TNB JANAMANJONG to build a new low-sulphur grade sub- bituminous and bituminous coal-fired power plant. In so doing, the new affiliate is expected to adopt an approach similar to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Construction plans call for building a coal-fired power station with an installed generating capacity of 2100 Mw. The planned complex, to be sited in the district of Manjung, Perak Darul Ridzuan, will be configured with 3-700 Mw units which will each consist of a:...
