PROJECT OVERVIEW:

An American/Belgian joint venture recently secured the needed project funding for the construction of a new power plant in Mexico. The partners in the planned 50:50 undertaking include U.S.-based SITHE-ENERGIES INC. and ABB ALSTOM POWER of Belgium.

Construction plans under consideration call for building a power station with an installed generating capacity of 230 Mw. The planned project, dubbed TERMOELECTRICA DEL GOLFO (TEG), is to be implemented on the basis of a build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme. The new facility, sited at Tamuin in the State of San Luis Potosi, is being built for the local cement producer, CEMEX.
