PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local KOWLOON CANTON RAIL CORP. (KCRC) recently awarded a rail tunnel design and build project to an international consortium. The partners in the planned infrastructure project include Australia-based LEIGHTON ASIA, a subsidiary of LEIGHTON HOLDINGS, and JOHN HOLLAND in conjunction with KUMAGAI GUMI CO. LTD. of Japan and the BALFOUR BEATTY GROUP of the UK.

The contract forms part of a project linking Kowloon's West Rail and East Rail between Nam Cheong Station and the new East Tsim Sha Tsui Station. The total cost to complete the infrastructure project has been estimated at $340,000,000. LEIGHTON ASIA's share of the project amounts to $130,000,000 while JOHN HOLLAND's split total's $42,000,000.
