PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local AES GENER, a subsidiary of US-based AES CORP., is currently involved in an effort to diversify the country's energy mix as a result of the recent natural gas restriction imposed by neighboring Venezuela.

As a result, AES is now planning to build 2 coal-fired power plants with an aggregate installed generating capacity of 450 Mw. These new facilities are to be built at the existing Guacolda and Ventanas sites at an estimated cost of $283,000,000 and $317,000,000 respectively.

As things currently stand, the planned projects are still at an environmental approval process. Nevertheless, operational start-up is scheduled for some time in 2009.
