SCM Microsystems has launched a personal smart card reader, which it says will improve the use of the latest multi-application smart cards. The wearable, wireless card reader has been designed to fit in with mobile lifestyles. Slightly bigger than a smart card, the E-25 reader features a keypad for secure PIN code entry and an LCD to read data from the card. It also features a radio frequency transmitter to facilitate on-thespoT payments in cafeterias or on public transport.
The reader can also be connected to a computer via USB or RS-232 serial ports for conventional smart card applications such as secure authentication to networks, internet payment or e-couponing downloads and loyalty applications. The reader has a tamper-evident casing and has been tested...
