A MANAGEMENT reshuffle at JP Morgan Chase aimed at improving its investment banking returns saw Geoff Boisi leave and David Coulter move from the bank's retail operation to head of investment banking. If he manages to turn around the business, he stands a good chance of succeeding William Harrison, chairman and chief executive.

Mr Boisi, co-head of investment banking and a former Goldman Sachs partner, tried to remake JP Morgan into Goldman, lacked leadership skills and was consequently unpopular, according to a senior source at the bank.
