Smith Barney Inc. last week fired Barry Sloane, the head of its commercial and residential MBS operations. Another Smith Barney executive, Andy Springer, was named senior credit trader and will assume some of Sloane's duties. Sloane, who could not be reached, was promoted to the head of commercial securitization at Smith Barney in January, running the day-to-day operations of the commercial/residential unit, including origination, securitization, trading and distribution. He joined Smith Barney in October 1993. A company spokesman confirmed that Sloane left the company last Tuesday, but declined to elaborate.
