Local accountants say Enron collapse felt throughout industry

CHARLESTON - In the postEnron business world, effects of one of the largest private sector scandals in U.S. history seem to be stretching far past the borders of Texas, where Enron is based.

After the company filed for bankruptcy late last year when Enron investors and workers lost fortunes in company stocks, investors all over the country have been left looking closer at their own investments.

According to a survey put together by Charles Schwab, a financial services firm based in California, "the collapse of Enron stock has made the vast majority of investors think twice about the way they invest."

The survey, which involved 620 adults who have a 401 (k) plan at work, found 72 percent admit they have changed their investment behavior as a direct result of Enron...
