Acquisition benefits tech industry in W.Va.

FAIRMONT - The purchase last March of Fairmont-based TMC Technologies by Global Science & Technology (GST) of Maryland may signal a logical next phase in realizing the high-technology vision in north-central West Virginia.

Founded in 1991, GST last year was managing multi-million dollar contracts with federal agencies including NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA). It had developed a work force of nearly 200 and annual revenue of more than $40 million.

The company was looking to diversify and hired the investment banking firm FOCUS Enterprises to identify likely acquisitions in the Washington, D.C. area.

But the search instead led to West Virginia.
