Wheeling Hospitals Join to Provide Trauma Services

Wheeling's two hospitals are working together to provide Level 2 trauma services in the Northern Panhandle.

The Joint Community Trauma Program, a partnership between Wheeling Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center, ensures those in need of emergency care because of lifethreatening injuries and illnesses can access it around-the-clock without having to go outside the community.

Development of the program was spearheaded by the state's efforts three years ago to ease the health care crisis in West Virginia and stem the exodus of medical professionals to other locales. It was an effort which included tort reforms capping medical liability at $500,000 for emergency patients at designated trauma centers.
