Town of Carpendale Promotes C&O Canal Trail Project

CARPENDALE - Mayor Dwight "Casey" Lambert has asked the Mineral County Commission to support a plan to connect Carpendale and Ridgeley to the C&O Canal bike path.

"Carpendale owns the Knobley Mountain Tunnel and the railroad trestle, which was built in the early 1900s," said Lambert.

Lambert said he has received a $160,000 grant for the project from the state the Department of Transportation. The city has to match that with $40,000.

"We want to build a bike trail from Town Hall to the tunnel and across the trestle which will connect into the C&O Canal in Cumberland," said Lambert.
