Operating the West Virginia Legislature takes far more than the 134 members elected to serve.
Scores of temporary and permanent staff members work at keeping the legislative branch running, and they kick their efforts into high gear for the 60-day regular session.
Aaron Allred, legislative manager, is adding about 25 temporary employees to augment the 120 full-time Legislative Services workers.
"There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that most people don't realize," Allred said.
In the state Senate, clerk Darrell Holmes has five new members and some office and committee assignments to change, but apart from that, he said his staff is ready for the 2007 session.
