With a plant sale out of the question, the president of Mittal Weirton's Independent Steelworkers Union said the focus now is on transforming the near 100-year-old mill into the nation's premier tin producer.
ISU President Mark Glyptis said senior executives told him Weirton is now part of Mittal's overall corporate strategy in the United States and the company is "committed" to its future.
"The goal is to make Weirton the premier U.S. tin producer," said Glyptis, who, with along with the ISU's Executive Committee, traveled to Chicago earlier in the week to meet with corporate executives.
