His story: Pete Knapp, an Akron, Ohio, native, received his bachelor's degree in architecture from Ohio State University in 1997. After graduating, he served four years active duty in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer officer.
In 2001, he returned to civilian life and also joined the West Virginia National Guard.
