Wal-Mart Acquires Two Parcels of Land for Weirton Super Center

Wal-Mart now has two of the three parcels of land it needs to build a super center in Weirton.

The West Virginia Economic Development Authority signed off April 19 on the sale of a 7.7-acre parcel to Wal-Mart, the second piece of its Three Springs Drive expansion puzzle. City officials say the retailer also has an agreement-inprinciple to purchase a companion parcel, a 14-acre site owned by Mittal Steel that under previous owners had housed the company's general offices.

That leaves about 10 privately held acres which still must be acquired.

Kelly Hobbs, senior manager of public affairs for WalMart in the Mountain State, said the company still is "going through the contractual process of acquiring the land" needed for the project, which will allow them to relocate...
