German Company Partners With AEP in Pilot Project

American Electric Power Co. Inc's carbon capture and storage project at its Mountaineer Plant in New Haven has been joined by German electricity producer RWE AG, AEP announced Nov. 8.

AEP first announced the project in March, when it signed a memorandum of understanding with Alstom for post- combustion carbon capture technology using Alstom's Chilled Ammonia Process.

RWE will participate in an associated project for deep geological storage of captured CO2.

"We're extremely pleased that RWE will join us in this important step toward commercialization of carbon capture technology," said AEP Chairman, President and CEO Michael G. Morris.
